Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship,
a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human
Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the
required minimum qualifications.
Research and/or extension experience in applied horticulture and/or disease
management of horticultural crops desired. Experience with laboratory and
field research equipment is highly desired.
This position is responsible for assisting and supporting the Assistant
Professor of Horticulture in Griffin with applied research and extension
programs. Assist with setting up and overseeing field trials, greenhouse, and
laboratory applied research in cooperation with industry and CAES faculty.
Perform greenhouse maintenance and any additional activities as required,
including but not limited to potting media, planting, fertilization, and
irrigation. Collect data from field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies and
subject this data to appropriate statistical analyses. Applied research will
involve outdoor field studies and work in greenhouses. Maintain and accurately
keep an inventory of supplies, chemicals, and pesticides for the program while
making sure the program PI stays in full compliance with UGA, EPD, and EPA
regulations governing the storage and usage of these materials.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Have the
ability to work independently and conduct field and laboratory research.
Willing to travel, including overnight, to address disease and horticultural
issues as they occur.
