IRIS is a group of researchers from over a dozen disciplines at the University of Georgia, including engineering, ecology, landscape architecture, geography, anthropology, economics, and policy and law. Position Summary
The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems wishes to appoint a Limited Term Research Professional/Social Sciences to work on a grant-funded research project funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Engineering With Nature Initiative. This position is a 12-month staff position and will be under the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS), at the College of Engineering's School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering (ECAM).
IRIS is an interdisciplinary hub focused on co-designing, implementing, and monitoring infrastructure systems that support thriving communities. At IRIS, infrastructure encompasses people and communities as well as conventional and natural infrastructure features. IRIS emphasizes community engagement and cultivating equity into our research and work environment.
The successful incumbent will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the University of Georgia who are engaged in projects between the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This position will work as part of a highly interdisciplinary team and will contribute to research and applied activities across Georgia and elsewhere in the U.S. This work will include reviewing literature; conducting surveys, interviews, and focus groups; engaging with communities; analyzing data; and writing / creating products for both academic and non-academic audiences. This position will be supported by, and work closely with, associated social science faculty across UGA.
This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the continuation of funding.
