RESEARCH POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP in CATEGORICAL SYMMETRIES

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship as part of the Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries, beginning Fall 2023. This is a joint physics and mathematics research program focused on the interplay between quantum field theory, topology, modular categories, higher category theory, and representation theory. Further information about the Collaboration and its research activities can be found at https: // scgcs.berkeley.edu .

Candidates are expected to show outstanding promise in research relevant to the Collaboration themes as described at the above link. Postdoctoral fellows will be mentored by Charlotte Ann Griffin Assistant Professor Julia Plavnik and will join thriving Mathematics departmental research groups in algebra and topology. Simons Collaboration Grant-funded research opportunities will include extended visits to other Collaboration sites, contributions to joint research activities, and participation in workshops and summer schools.

The appointment is a non-tenure-track position. Assuming effective performance of assigned duties and continuing programmatic need, the appointment is renewable for up to one additional year. Contingent on adequate funding, renewal for a third year may be available. There will be teaching opportunities for at least one year with a reduced teaching load of one course per semester. The annual salary for the position will be $56,500. There will be opportunities for partial summer support.
