- participation in the definition of the qualitative survey
- conducting interviews in French and English
- constitution and analysis of a documentary corpus of NGS testing practices
- writing articles and communications in French and English
- realization of progress reports
The recruited person will integrate the INASEQ project (Inequalities of
access of NGS tests in cancer) funded by the French National Cancer
Institute. This project focuses on inequalities in access to next generation
sequencing (NGS) technology for patients with lung cancer. It aims to
analyze to what extent the existing financing system and organizational
framework (public and private molecular genetics platforms) guarantee or not
equity of access to NGS tests for these patients in France.
This multidisciplinary project is based on two complementary surveys. A first
quantitative survey carried out by a team of health economists will measure
access to and use of these practices on a national scale by using data from
the Référentiel des actes innovants hors nomenclature (RIHN) in medico-
administrative databases, and a cross-sectional electronic survey of
healthcare professionals on access to/use of NGS tests. A second qualitative
survey will be carried out in three French regions (Paris region, Auvergne-
Rhône-Alpes and Grand Est) in order to characterize the interactions
underlying the performance or not of these tests in clinical routine. While
oncologists as well as pathologists and molecular biologists will be the main
population surveyed, administrative staff (financial managers, hospital and
laboratory managers) of health care institutions and those of the Ministry of
Health will also be questioned. Beyond local specificities, the comparison
between the three territories should allow the identification of common trends
that could explain the volumes observed by the quantitative survey. In
parallel, the close knowledge of a European survey conducted by a member of
the research team will provide additional comparative material to conduct
semi-structured interviews with key actors in two European countries (United
Kingdom and Germany) in order to highlight the French specificities.
Within the framework of this project, the recruited person will have to
participate in the implementation of the qualitative survey by semi-structured
interviews with the actors of the health sector. This approach aims to analyze
the modalities of prescription and realization of these tests as well as the
possible difficulties encountered. This research also requires an inventory
and monitoring of the recommendations for good practice in the use of NGS, as
well as their financial coverage.
The recruited person will be associated with the UMR Triangle (Action,
Discourse, Political and Economic Thought) located in Lyon. He or she will
have an office and the necessary equipment to carry out the research. The
recruited person will work in direct relation with Audrey Vézian (UMR
Triangle), and in interaction with Julia Bonastre (Economist, Institut
