The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) is seeking to appoint a Research Manager as a key senior role overseeing the operation of the Department's Research activity.

This is a full-time and permanent appointment.

The Research Manager will manage all research funding applications for the Department, oversee post-award research activity, and other research activity such as the Department's research networks. The postholder will provide advice on all research activity, will develop and implement policies, and will oversee support for research activity in the Department. The Research Manager will be expected to be pro-active and work closely with the Director of Research to support the implementation of the Department's research strategy, identifying new funding opportunities and enabling academics in DPIR to apply successfully to a wide variety of grants. The Research Manager will work closely with the Head of Administration and Finance and will deputise on all Research related activity; and may from time to time be asked to deputise across other functional areas on Department-wide projects.

The Research Manager will be supported by the Research Facilitation team, currently comprising two Research Facilitation Officers, a Research Compliance Lead and a project administrator – and will lead the team and line manage individuals within the team. The postholder will also work closely and collaboratively with colleagues within the Department, the Social Sciences Division, Research Services and the wider University.

The successful candidate will have a high intellectual capability, with a good first degree or equivalent, preferably postgraduate. They will have professional experience of research administration in Higher Education, and of dealing with different types of research applications and awards including research councils, government funders and private organisations. They will also have excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to manage a team effectively and of working collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
