Research Laboratory Technician - SHUTTERING
Applications are invited for a Research Laboratory Technician to join the
SHUTTERING team at the Civil Engineering Building on the West Cambridge
campus. The post will support laboratory-based structural engineering research
to join a newly funded EPSRC project "SHUTTERING" (on a 0.6FTE basis) as
well as support ongoing research projects focussing on structural/mechanical
behaviour of building materials (on a 0.4FTE basis).
The main responsibilities of the post is to support and enable Prototype
Testing of novel concrete structures. The Research Laboratory Technician will
assist in designing and making equipment for casting concrete in textile
You should have relevant experience in supporting structural testing of
concrete structures and be fully familiar with specialised workshop activities
and equipment, including the safe use of machinery and hand tools e.g. lathe,
mill; skill saw, grinders, drills etc. In addition, practical knowledge of
data logging equipment is desirable.
Applicants should be educated to degree level / level 6 vocational
qualification or an equivalent level of practical experience. You should be
able to design, specify and manufacture, as appropriate, equipment for casting
concrete to a high degree of precision. Excellent communication and
organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to understand
and explain diverse technical and design problems to researchers.
