Job Summary

Laboratory Manger of a basic science research lab at the UMICH Medical School, working on neural development and nervous system regeneration. You will be working in a team with graduate students and research faculty, as well as faculty and trainees in collaborating laboratories.

  • Responsibilities

    As lab manager of a medium-sized lab (6 graduate students and 1 research faculty) approximately 40% of your time will be dedicated to laboratory organization/administrative work and 60% will be for research.

    Administrative responsibilities:

  • Placing of orders for reagents, receiving and storing of reagents, billing, keeping digital records of lab inventory
  • Attend bi-weekly CDB lab liaisons meetings and report back to the lab
  • Shipping reagents/samples via FedEx to collaborating laboratories
  • Responsible that laboratory keeps running smoothly
  • ?Research responsibilities:

  • To work in a team that uses transgenic mice to study mechanisms of development and repair
  • Mouse colony management, this includes mouse breeding, tagging, PCR genotyping, perfusion and harvesting of tissues
  • Cryo-sectioning of mouse tissue, immunofluorescence labeling, imaging of stained tissues, and image analysis; Western blotting
  • Cell culture work, this includes work with cell lines and primary cells
  • Training of students (graduate students and undergrad students)
  • DNA preps (mini-preps and maxi-preps)
  • Prepare commonly used buffers and reagent stocks
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree is required. 1-3 years of experience in a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment are required.
  • Experienced and skilled in working with mice, this incudes colony management, genotyping, tissue collection and analysis.
  • Experienced and skilled in cryo-sectioning and immunofluorescence labeling
  • Work independently and reproducibly after necessary training
  • Good organizational skills, good work ethics, and strong interest in research
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge in neuroscience/neuroinflammation/immunology is preferred
  • Background Screening
