    A call is now open for the attribution of one (1) Research Grant within the scope of the project Factory of the Future: Smart Manufacturing, ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-037947, co-financed by FEDER, through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI) - COMPETE 2020, under Portugal 2020, in the terms of the “Aviso de Abertura de Concurso n.º 26/SI/2016” as defined in paragraph a) of no.1 of article 62nd of “Regulamento Específico do domínio da Competitividade e Internacionalização (RECI)” Ordinance No. 57 -A/2015, of February 27th, in order to execute, develop and participate in the research and development project indicated above.

    Duration of the research grant(s): The research grant will last for 4 months, starting on September 1st, 2021. The research grant contract will eventually be renewable in the case of master's students up to two years, in the case of masters enrolled in a doctorate up to four years and in the case of masters or bachelors enrolled in a course that does not lead to an academic degree, up to one year. Under no circumstances may research grants exceed the maximum duration of the project and/or the applicable legislation.

    Host Unit and Scientific Orientation: The work will be developed in ALGORITMI Research Centre of University of Minho – Campus Azurém under the scientific guidance of the Professor Luís Gonzaga Mendes Magalhães.

    Work Plan: The work plan is included in the Sub-Project 2 - “Logistics” in the line “System Optical Inspection (SOI)”, in the profile “Msc Electrotecnia/Eletrónica/Telecomunicações” (profile 17), in the activities/tasks associated with the period concerning the course effective of the research grant. It is planned to adopt the Design Science Research Methodology to carry out the work, contemplating from the framing and detailing of the problems and opportunities underlying the project, the definition of a solution, the design and development of corresponding artefacts, the demonstration and evaluation of the solution, and the communication of results, aiming to contributing to the research and development of an automatic inspection system of packages. As a result, it is expected the definition of technical solutions and methods for the automatic optical inspection of packages in order to automatically check the non- conformity of the packages of the received raw materials and of the products to be shipped with the specifications, and detect and clearly indicate the detected non-conformities.

    This research context and methodological approach is adequate for the realization of the master's dissertation, in the case of candidates enrolled in 2nd cycle courses, such as Masters or Integrated Masters, or in Doctoral Courses, for the development of the doctoral thesis.

    Selection methods(1): The evaluation of the applications will focus on the candidate's merit, applying the following selection methods:

  • curriculum evaluation, with a weighting of 40 %;
  • a.1) degree's final grade, with a weighting of 75%;

    a.2) relevance of the training area, with a weighting of 25%,

  • consolidated knowledge in web development, with a weighting of 60%.
  • The jury may use selection interviews to the five candidates with the best classification.

    In case the jury conducts interviews, the selection methods change, becoming the following:

  • curriculum evaluation, with a weighting of 40 %;
  • a.1) degree's final grade, with a weighting of 75%;

    a.2) relevance of the training area, with a weighting of 25%,

  • consolidated knowledge in software web development, with a weighting of 40%.
  • interview, with a weighting of 20%. The interview will be rated on a scale from 0 to 20, according to the following skills:
  • c.1) Motivation, with a weighting of 30%

    c.2) Knowledge of the project area, with a weighting of 40%.

    c.3) Others, with a weighting of 30%.

    Candidates who obtain a valuation lower than 9,50 values ​​in any of the selection methods are considered excluded from the final valuation.

    Candidates with a master's degree will be valued at 20% in the component related to the curricular evaluation, when the final grade obtained in the course is evaluated in the methods or selection criteria.

    The jury reserves the right not to award the research grant if candidates with the appropriate profile are not presented to the competition.

    (1) Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees and diplomas, or their respective recognition when they have been issued by foreign higher education institutions, may be dispensed at the application stage, being replaced by the candidate's declaration of honor, with the verification of this condition occurring only in phase of contracting the research grant. This declaration must attest facts that occurred on a date prior to the application. In the application stage, when a declaration of honor is presented in replacement of degree recognition by a Portuguese higher education institution, and the degree recognition process has not yet been completed, the indication of the final grade of the academic degree will not be admitted as evidence for the purposes evaluation of the selection method related to the curricular evaluation component. Thus, in this situation, the jury will assign the minimum classification in this method (10 values), according to the defined scale of values. In situations of divergence between the information contained in the declaration and the documentation submitted at the contract phase, only the information contained in the latter will be considered. If it is verified that the documents proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, or the respective recognition under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, do not correspond to the classification of the certificate degree, and may, consequently, change the candidate's ranking, the research grant contracting will not be effected.

    Deadline for application and form of submission of applications: The call is open from July 21th until August 05th of 2021.

    Amount of monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the research grant, according to the list of research grants assigned directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (https:// www., corresponds to the following:

    PhD students: 1104,64 euros

    Masters enrolled in non-academic degree courses: 1104,64 euros

    Masters or Integrated Masters students: 835,98 euros

    Bachelors enrolled in non-academic degree courses: 835,98 euros

    Other benefits: Reimbursement of the Voluntary Social Security, corresponding to the 1st level of the contributory base (allowances lasting 6 months or more) and Personal Accident Insurance.

    Composition of the Selection Jury: the Jury is composed by the President, Professor Luís Gonzaga Mendes Magalhães; by the effective members, Professor João Eduardo Quintela Alves Sousa Varajão and Professor Paulo Alexandre Ribeiro Cortez; and for the substitute members, Professor Rui Manuel Alves da Silva e Sousa and Professor Maribel Yasmina Campos Alves Santos.

    If there is a need to replace the President, it is safeguarded that he is replaced by the first effective member, with the substitute members being appointed to replace the effective member.

    Dissemination of results: The final evaluation results, based on the minutes, will be sent to candidates by email, within 90 working days after the deadline for submission of applications.

    If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the requested research grant, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment, if desired, in the context of a prior hearing to interested parties, pursuant to articles 121 and 122 of “Código do Procedimento Administrativo” (DL nº 4 /2015 of January 7th).

    Complaint and appeal procedures: The final results of the evaluation will be publicized through an ordered list, by the final grade obtained, posted in a visible and public place of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, as well as by email to all candidates, attaching, for that purpose, the minutes with the deliberations of the jury.

    The selected candidate must state in writing their intention to accept the research grant. In case of non-acceptance, the research grant will be awarded to the candidate in order of final ranking.

    A complaint may be filed against the final decision, within 15 working days, addressed to the President of the Jury. Interested parties may also present an optional hierarchical appeal, addressed to the Pro-Rector for Research and Projects, Professor Dr. Filipe Vaz.

    Priority will be given to candidates with consolidated knowledge in software web development.

    Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree (Doctoral students, Masters enrolled in another Masters or Masters enrolled in non- academic degree courses). Candidates with a Bachelor's degree (Doctoral students, Master's or Integrated Master's students or non-academic degree courses enrolled) will only be hired if Masters do not apply, or if they do, the latter are not from the intended training area, and/or do not have the consolidated knowledge referred to above.
