  • The Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Prof. Dr. Isabel Capeloa Gil, hereby open a competition for the attribution of 1 Research Grant, on the basis of exclusive dedication, in the framework of the project OeHMP – Oral eHealth Monitoring Platform (CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-072636), co-financing by the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) through the Programa Operacional Regional do Centro (PO 2020) from Portugal 2020, under the following conditions:

    1. Scientific Area

    Biology, Biomedicine, Computational Biology or related scientific fields.

    2. Admission requirements

    Can apply for this competition:

    - National citizens or citizens of other EU member states;

    - Citizens of third States;

    - Stateless;

    - Citizens who are beneficiaries of political refugee status.

    Admission requirements:

    - Hold a Master's degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Bioinformatics or related scientific fields;

    - To reside in Portugal permanently and regularly, a requirement applicable to both national and foreign citizens;

    - Being a PhD student in the areas of Biology, Biomedicine, Computational Biology or related scientific areas, or who are enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution, and holders of a curriculum scientific and professional that reveals an adequate profile for the activity to be developed.

    It is not required that at the time of application, the student is already enrolled in a PhD or in a course that does not confer an academic degree, and the proof of enrollment must be carried out until contracting. Candidates are only required to meet the requirements to enroll in a training offer. If there are candidates already registered (including attending a course), they compete for the competition on an equal footing with those who are not registered.

    The duration of a course granting or not an academic degree does not have to be equal to the duration of the scholarship, it can be started before the beginning of the scholarship and concluded during the duration of the scholarship. Likewise, the course may not be completed on the end date of the scholarship. The plan of R&D activities and the plan of the course in which the scholarship holder is enrolled must be executed in such a way as to allow the scholarship holder to fulfill the duration of the scholarship and the foreseen objectives.

    "Courses that do not confer an academic degree" are considered to be the courses referred to in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Law no. 74/2006, of March 24, in its wording current, provided that they are developed in association or cooperation between the higher education institution and one or several R&D units, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph e) of Article 3 of the FCT Research Grant Regulation.

    If the academic degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the provisions of Law 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th, must be complied with.

    3. Work plan

    • Development of strategies for the collection, treatment and integration of clinical data;

    • Development of strategies for annotation, storage, processing and integration of molecular data;

    • Interaction with the IT responsible for the development of the platforms/tools to be created during the project;

    • Organization of results and respective statistical analysis;

    • Preparation of material for publication of research results.

    4. Applicable legislation and regulations

    Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica (EBI), Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, in the wording given to it by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28; Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P (FCT), Regulation no. 950/2019, of 29 November, published in the Diário da República, no. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 from December; and, subsidiary, Universidade Católica Portuguesa's Regulation of Scientific Research grants (NR/N/0397/2019); Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August (Regime Jurídico de reconhecimento de graus Académicos e diplomas de Ensino superior atribuídos por instituições de Ensino superior estrangeiras), without prejudice to the specific regulations applicable to the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

    5. Activity regime

    The functions of the scholarship holder are carried out in an exclusive dedication regime, under the terms foreseen in the Estatuto Bolseiro de Investigação (EBI), and the work plan must be guaranteed under penalty of non-attribution or cancellation of the scholarship.

    6. Workplace

    The work will be developed at the Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Saúde – CIIS, integrated at Centro Regional de Viseu of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, located in Viseu, under the supervision of Professor Nuno Rosa.

    7. Duration of the scholarship

    The scholarship will have an estimated duration of 7 months, starting in December 2022, and may eventually be renewed for additional periods, up to: 1 year, when the scholarship has been awarded to Graduates or Masters who are enrolled in a non- academic degree lecturers; 2 years, when the scholarship has been awarded to a student enrolled in a master's degree; 4 years, when the scholarship has been awarded to a student enrolled in a PhD. The grant can never exceed the duration of the project (OeHMP).

    8. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance

    The amount of the monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to €1,144.64 euros, according to the table of scholarship values set out in Annex I of Regulation No. 950/2019 (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). To this amount must be added the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first step, if the candidate chooses to be awarded it, as well as the personal accident insurance. The period of payment for the scholarship is monthly, by bank transfer.

    Selection process

    The selection process must comply with article 11 of the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation, IP (Regulation No. 950/2019).

    In compliance with the provisions of 3 of article 11 of Regulation no. 950/2019, the evaluation will focus only on the merit of the candidate.

    In a first phase, the curricular evaluation will be carried out and the selection of candidates admitted to the Tender will be performed, in view of the fulfillment of the admission requirements.

    The final classification system of candidates must be expressed from 0 to 100. The value is calculated taking into account the following parameters and weights, and for each item, only the activity relevant to the competition area will be considered:

    1. Scientific and academic curriculum (SC)

    a) Training in the area: 30%;

    b) Scientific and technological production: 30%;

    c) Relevant experience in the area (eg participation in projects): 40%;

    Candidates admitted to the competition will be ranked according to the classification obtained in the parameters described above. If necessary, an interview will be conducted for candidates located at the top of the ordered list. In this case, the percentage weighting of the methods used in the selection will be: • Scientific and academic curriculum (SC): 50%;

    • Interview: 50%;

    The candidate who occupies the first place in the ranking list of candidates will be selected.

Applications must be addressed to the Rector of the UCP stating full name, filiation, data and place of birth, citizenship, civil state, current residence, identification number as well as the institution conferring the degree and the final classification.

    If the Degree has been awarded by a non-Portuguese higher education institution it must comply with the provisions of the Portuguese legislation on the recognition of foreign degrees, regulated by Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16th. The signature of the contract is conditional on the presentation of the formal document.
