    University of Coimbra opens a call for one research fellowship, in the framework of the “Atlas da Saúde dos Municípios da Rede Portuguesa de Municípios Saudáveis project reference: DITS09-2018-423), financed by own resources (PSE-2019-036) in the following conditions:

    Scientific area: Geography.

    Skills/Qualifications/Admission requirements:

    1. Master's degree in Geographical Information Systems and Territorial Planning and bachelor's degree in Geography.

    2. Candidate must be enrolled in a doctoral program in Human Geography and developing PhD thesis in the field of Health Geography, preferably addressing municipal health planning.

    Preferential terms:

    - Experience in scientific projects (fundamental and applied research) in Health Geography, at national and European levels, namely in the fields of population health evaluation and development of tools supporting policy decisions in health.

    - Advanced knowledge and good understanding of multivariate statistics, multicriteria evaluation methods and population health indicator systems.

    - Experience in designing, applying and analysing population-based surveys.

    - Demonstrable advanced skills in planning, organising and implementing participatory processes and approaches with different actors, stakeholders and citizens and in applying methods to build consensus, as Delphi technique.

    - Excellent analytic skills, as well as technical and scientific writing skills.

    - Fluency in both written and spoken English.

    Although the recipients must be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to the attribution of an academic degree, at the time of application it is not necessary for the candidate to have made such an enrollment, and proof of enrollment must be presented until the fellowship is contractualized. Candidates are only required to meet the requirements to enroll in the training offer. If there are candidates already enrolled (including attending a course), they compete on an equal footing with those who are not enrolled.

    Work plan/ Objectives: The research fellow will carry out R&D activities, as part of the project “Health Atlas of the Portuguese Network of Healthy Municipalities”. This project aims to characterize the population health and its determinants of the Municipalities of the Portuguese Network of Healthy Municipalities. The project will develop a web-based platform with multiple dimension's indicators and population health indices at municipal level, with georeferenced data that can be updated over the years, which will serve as a decision support tool for local policymaking, namely for the development of Municipal Health Strategies. The research fellow will have an active role in the following tasks: i) statistical analysis of indicators and data from multiple sources and from population-based surveys; (ii) construction of multidimensional population health indices; (iii) planning, organising and implementing participatory processes with municipal technicians and policymakers from municipalities belonging to the Portuguese Network of Healthy Municipalities (e.g., Delphi panels, workshops); (iv) analysis and evaluation of policy measures and actions with potential of promoting health at municipal level; and (v) preparing project meetings, technical reports, conference papers and writing scientific articles..

    Regime: The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime. The fellowship holder is awarded the Fellowship Statute of the UC, in its current wording, according to the Research Fellowship Holder Statute , and according to the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., both in their current wording.

    Location: Humanities Faculty at the University of Coimbra.

    Duration: 12 months.

    Renewal: Eventually renewable.

    Financial conditions: The amount of the fellowship is € 1.104,64 corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en), plus social security (Seguro Social Voluntário, first level contributions) and annual tuition fees of €1.437,00 and personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer. This amount will not be increased during the entire period of the fellowship duration.

    Selection methods: Curriculum evaluation (70%) and interview (30%), the latter only to the 3 (three) first classified in the curricular evaluation.

    Selection criteria: In the Curriculum evaluation (70%) the following criteria will be considered:

    1. Quality and merit of the candidate expressed through the general evaluation of the Curriculum Vitae, including education, research experience in scientific projects and publications in the field of Health Geography (relevance, number and quality - IF or Citescore) (35%);

    2. Demonstrable knowledge in the field of the work plan and desired profile and experience in the following activities: evaluating population health across dimensions and using different methods, in developing multidimensional health indices, in applying multivariate statistics to analyse indicators, in developing and applying population-based surveys, in planning, organizing and implementing participatory processes with different stakeholders and

    applying consensus building techniques (e.g., Delphi), in evaluating public policies at municipal level and analysing strategic health planning (35%).

    In the Interview (30%) will be valued candidate's motivation, commitment, and perseverance, candidate's demonstrated merit to the project's needs and demonstrable knowledge in the work plan area and desired profile.

    If no candidate matches the desired profile (less than 60% in the curriculum evaluation, the fellowship will not be awarded..

    Applicants with academic degrees obtained abroad will be required to present a Certificate of Recognition in accordance with applicable law. This document is mandatory only in the contractualization phase.

    Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 working days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the fellowship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.

    Once the selection process is completed, the fellowship contract will be drawn up in accordance with the draft contract provided by the FCT.

    After the contracted period, the fellowship holder and supervisor must prepare the final report in accordance with the respective assessment criteria that were established.
