  • A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for students enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a master degree or graduates enrolled in a non-academic degree course (BI), within the Research Project titled PREMA, funded by Zirak S.r.l., taking place at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Beira Interior www. di.ubi.pt, under the following conditions:

    Research Field: Computer Science

    Objetives:

    Realization and implementation of the work plan foreseen, within the scope of the PREMA project and the provision of services protocoled with UBI.

    Work plan:

    The work plan includes technical and research tasks in the area of detecting and recognizing objects in aerial images. The selected candidate will have to carry out the following tasks:

    1) Survey of the state of the art in the field of plant detection in aerial images;

    2) Application of new data processing and/or machine learning models;

    3) Validation and testing of the developed system;

    4) Preparation of the annual scientific report and other elements of dissemination of project activities, such as scientific articles.

    Work location:

    The work will be developed at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Beira Interior under the scientific supervision of Doctor Luís Filipe Barbosa de Almeida Alexandre (lfbaa@di.ubi.pt).

    Fellowship duration and conditions:

    The fellowship is opened for 9 months and is expected to start in December 2021.

    The activity is in regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI.

    Publication/notification of results:

    The final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail.

    Benefits:

    A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted in accordance with the Annex I of the RBIUBI, with the amount of € 835,98 according to the updated values that can be consulted at https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.

    The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by the voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of monthly maintenance allowance.

    The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer to an account held by the grantee.

    Eligibility criteria

    Requirements for admission and hiring:

    Hold a BSc degree in Computer Science and meet the conditions to be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a master degree or enrolled in a non-academic degree course.

    The proof of registration in a cycle of studies conferring a master degree or in a course not conferring an academic degree is required for the fellowhip contractualization.

    According to Article 6 of the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the University of Beira Interior – RBIUBI, the BI awarded to graduates who are enrolled in courses that do not lead to an academic degree can only be granted for a maximum period of one year.

    According to Article 6 of the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the University of Beira Interior – RBIUBI, the BI awarded to graduates who are enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with the execution of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, a cumulative period of two years in this type of research fellowship, followed or interpolated.

    Selection process

    The selection methods to be used will consist of 2 assessment phases, according to the following: 1st phase - Curriculum assessment; 2nd phase - Interview, which can be carried out via videoconference. The evaluation in the 1st phase includes the following criteria: Curriculum Vitae / Academic Evaluation (50%); Appropriateness of the profile of project candidates based on relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (50%).

    The 3 candidates who obtain the highest scores after the 1st phase will go on to the 2nd phase.

    For the final assessment, each of the assessment phases has an assessment of 50%.

    Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August, in its current wording (amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August); Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology (Regulation No. 950/2019) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, No. 241, 16 December 2019; Regulation for Research Fellowships of the University of Beira Interior - RBIUBI (Regulation No. 100/2020) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 27, 7 February 2020.

    Complaint and Appeal Procedures:

    After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.

    The proposal for the final ranking of the candidates will constitute a reserve list for selection for a period of 2 months.
