    RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

    According to article 8 of the Regulation for Scientific Research Fellowships of FCT, IP is made public that, by deliberation of the Director Council of Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P. (IPMA, I.P.) from 19/10/2021, the opening call to award a Research Fellowship was authorized, in the scientific field of Marine Biology or similar within the framework of the project “ATLAZUL - Impulsionar a aliança costeira atlântica para o crescimento azul (0755ATLAZUL6E )” project I&D Cooperation Interreg VA Espanha – Portugal (POCTEP 2014-2020), and co-financed by european funds (FEDER).

    1: Recipients

    The fellowship aims for a holder of an University 1st degree in the area of Aquaculture, Biology, Marine Biology or similar, to carry out activities to support research to execute research activity related to the ATLAZUL project.

    2: Admission requirements

    The candidate should have as a qualification of University 1st degree in the areas of Aquaculture, Biology, Marine Biology or similar. The candidate must be enrolled in master or integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

    3: Work plan:

    The work plan for the candidate to be recruited includes the following activities:

  • Collaboration in planning and carrying out RAS trials;
  • Collaboration in planning and carrying out IMTA trials;
  • Collaboration in planning and carrying out seaweed cultivation trials;
  • Sampling and analysis of biological parameters of the cultivated organisms, of environmental parameters and water quality;
  • Data processing and report writing;
  • Collaboration in the preparation of content for knowledge transfer activities.
  • 7) Availability to work on weekends and holidays is required.

    4: Objectives to be achieved

    a) Optimize and balance the integration of several RAS system units;

    b) Develop trials in RAS system with fish and macroalgae;

    c) Assess fish performance and several physiological responses under RAS system;

    d) Produce macroalgae biomass and assess its bioremediation potential;

    e) Reporting and production of dissemination documents;

    f) Participation in dissemination activities related to the project.

    5: Duration and Renovation conditions

    The fellowship, due to start in 5 December 2021, will have a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of being renewed under the terms of article 15th of the Regulation for Scientific Research Fellowships of IPMA, IP, published in the Official Journal 2nd series, part C, n.º 154, of august 10 th of 2020, until the end of the project. The work to be carried out within the scope of this scholarship is of a temporary nature, with no continuity beyond the conclusion of the project.

    6: Supervision and workplace

    The work to be developed will take place within the framework of the EPPO/IPMA (EPPO- Estação Piloto de Piscicultura de Olhão, Av. Parque Natural da ria Formosa 8700-194 Olhão, Portugal), under the guidance of Pedro Pousão, researcher. The location of the activities can be changed according to the work plan.

    7: Value of monthly maintenance allowance

    The amount for the fellowship corresponds to 835,98 €, according to the table of values approved by FCT, I.P. (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/TabelaValoresSMMLOE2021.pdf). The monthly remuneration will be paid by bank transfer by the IPMA, I.P. services.

    8: Jury members

    The jury, appointed by order of the Director Council of IPMA, I.P., is composed by the following members:

    President: Pedro Pousão-Ferreira (researcher at IPMA,I.P);

    1st member: Laura Ribeiro (researcher at IPMA,I.P);

    2nd member: Florbela Soares (researcher at IPMA,I.P) ;

    1st substitute member: Hugo Quental-Ferreira (technician at IPMA,I.P);

    2nd substitute member: Ana Matias (researcher at IPMA,I.P).

    9: Selection and methods criteria

    9.1 Admission requirements: all candidates fulfilling the points 2 and 12 in this notice will be admitted.

    9.2 Evaluation method: the candidates will be evaluated by Curricular Assessment (CA). Interview (I) will only be performed when difference between the two best CA ranks is inferior to 1 point.

    9.3 The Curricular Assessment (CA) is expressed quantitatively from 0 to 20 points, corresponding to the sum of the obtained in the following criteria: the Academic Qualification (AQ), and the knowledge and complementary knowledge and training (CT) in the preferred areas of work, considering these two factors according to the following formula: CA = 0.30AQ + 0.70CT. The curriculum evaluation is expressed quantitatively from 0 to 20 values corresponding to the addition of the values obtained in the following objective criteria:

    a) The Academic Qualification (AQ) correspond to the classification obtained in University degree (0-20 points):

    b) Complementary knowledge and training (CT) will be scored from 0 to 20 as follows:

    1) Knowledge and training on fish aquaculture (0-4);

    2) Knowledge and training on seaweed cultivation (0-4);

    3) Knowledge and training on IMTA (0-2);

    4) Knowledge and training on RAS (0-2);

    5) Knowledge and training on biological samplings among different marine organisms (0-3);

    6) Knowledge and training on water quality analysis (0-2);

    7) Knowledge and training on data analysis, reporting and results dissemination (0-3).

    9.4 Based on the Curriculum Evaluation (CE), an Ordered List of candidates will be made. If Interview step will be needed, it may be done in person or online, and will be scored adding the obtained values according to the following criteria: 1) Motivation; 2) Autonomy; 3) Critical sense; and 4) Expression and overall fluency in Portuguese and English. These criteria will be classified from zero to twenty, with the total interview resulting from the sum of the criteria to be divided by four (0-20 points).

    9.5. The final classification of each candidate will be decided by simple majority of the jury members.

    9.6 Ordered List of the Final Classification: all the candidates eligible to the call will be ranked by the classification given by the jury, where the final classification corresponds to the Curricular Assessment (CA). If an interview is conducted the final classification (FC) is obtained by the weighted sum of the Curricular Assessment (CA), weighting 60%, and of the interview (I), weighting 40%. (FC = CA0.6+ I0.4).

    9.7 The jury members will conduct the necessary meetings to reach the final decision, documenting in minutes all the procedures used, as well as all the elements considered relevant for the final decision.

    10 Communication of results

    Upon approval of the ranked list by the jury, the evaluation process is considered closed, and the candidates will be notified within 5 working days, and hearing process will be conducted, under the terms of Administrative Procedure Code. In the event of the candidate's withdrawal either at the admission stage or after recruitment, the selection board reserves the right to call the next candidate and so on until the vacancy is filled, in accordance with the stipulated in the tender selection methods and criteria, constituting for this purpose a "selection reserve list" corresponding to the final ranking list of the competition.

    11 Research Fellowship Contest approval

    Upon conclusion of the hearing process and its appreciation by the jury members, the final decision will be proposed for approval by the Director Council of IPMA, I.P.

    12 Submission of applications:

    12.1 Applications to the research fellowship must be formalized by sending, to the email candidaturas.bolsas@ipma.pt, the application form available at https: // www. ipma.pt/export/sites/ipma/bin/docs/organizacionais/IPMA- FORMULARIO-CANDIDATURA-CC-v1.0.pdf , along with the following documents:

  • Copy of the identification document;
  • Certificate of permanent residence, authorization for permanent residence or long-term residence status, if applicable;
  • Documents proving the conditions required by the type of fellowship, namely coy of diplomas that confirm the Academic Degree, recognized by a Portuguese University, if the degree has been obtained abroad;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate detailed and signed;
  • Copy of the documents attesting the professional experience and training, namely recommendation letters, course or internship certificates;
  • Recent document attesting the current professional status, indicating the nature of the link and functions, and may be replaced by a declaration of honour if the candidate does not carry out any professional or service activity;
  • Document proving the enrolment in a MSc or in a non-academic degree integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

  • 12.2 In case of not being possible to obtain the certificates mention in c) and g) until the due date of the application, the candidate may replace them by declarations of their responsibility with the corresponding content, submitted electronically and, in case of grant of the fellowship, send the official certificates to the IPMA, IP, before the contract being handled.

    12.3 If the documents, referred in b), e), f) and g) are not delivered within 1 month after the publication of results, implies that the fellowship is not granted.

    12.4. The application submission period will run between 25/10/2021 and 8/11/2021.

  • Notes:

  • In case of differences between the Portuguese and English announcement versions, the Portuguese version is considered.
  • The jury may decided not to choose any candidate if there are no candidates with merit.
