    Admission requirements:

  • BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related areas.
  • Registered in a MSc Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related areas.
  • Final grade of the BSc degree of at least 16 (on a scale of 0 to 20).
  • Laboratorial research skills, documented by (co)-authorship in scientific communication/publication, or by a supervisor recommendation letter.
  • English writing and oral communication skills.
  • Availability to integrate the project in full time, working in presence in Porto.
  • Preferential factors:

  • Experience in Laboratory work using model organisms.
  • Experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with microscopy.
  • Experience with signal and image processing methodologies.
  • Experience with graphical representations and statistical analyses.
  • Work plan: The person hired will work with the model organism zebrafish (Danio rerio) and cell culture, testing the effects of drugs and contaminants, in behavioral and metabolic assays, using microscopy and molecular biology techniques. In addition to the maintenance of the experimental models and performing the experiments, the person will participate in the analysis of results, their graphical representation and statistical analyses, and in writing laboratory reports.

    Work Place: The work will be conducted at REQUIMTE, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universit of Porto, under the supervision of Prof. Jorge Ascenção Oliveira (webpage FFUP: www. ff.up.pt/jorgemao Research Team: www. mitoneuro.com).

    Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 3 months, possibly renewable for equal period for up to 6 months, but cannot exceed project end date (31/10/2022) starting on February 2022.

    Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €835,98 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https:// alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

    Methods of selection: Upon fulfillment of the admission criteria, the jury will proceed with curricular assessment. Curricular assessment will ponder the final grade of the BSc degree (50%), experience in laboratory research activities (25%), and the experience in data analysis and scientific writing (25%). The three candidates with the best scores in the curricular assessment will be selected for the interview. The interview will have a 50% contribution for the final decision, the other 50% being the candidate CV. If the candidates do not meet the suitable requirements, the jury may close the applications without hiring.
