    The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for two Research Fellows to join the Structural Virology lab within the Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University on a 2-year fixed-term basis initially. In this role, you will lead a research project using cutting-edge structural biology to elucidate the function of enigmatic protein complexes produced by insect-borne viruses. Ultimately, the research will guide the design of new vaccines to protect against important viral pathogens.

    Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Proactively undertaking a range of research and contributing to the production of conference papers and publications from that research
  • Co-supervising, or where appropriate, supervising, major honours or postgraduate research projects within the field of the research
  • Occasionally preparing research-related material for teaching or other purposes
  • Monitoring administrative functions in the area of expertise
  • Attending meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected
  • The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in cryo-electron microscopy and a strong interest in molecular virology - or vice versa. Outstanding candidates with other areas of expertise related to structural biology will be considered. These positions are suited to highly motivated individuals who have completed a doctoral qualification in biochemistry, structural biology or virology, or an honours degree in the relevant discipline and/or progress towards a doctorate in the relevant discipline.

The Structural Virology lab has access to a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility within Monash University and to high-quality beamlines at the neighbouring Australian Synchrotron.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
