Research Fellow in Patient Centred Outcomes Research Overview of the Role

Are you passionate about research that will improve the care of cancer patients across Europe? Do you have an excellent record for delivering applied research in a health care setting?

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join the Patient Centred Outcomes Research (PCOR) group. PCOR is internationally recognised for delivering patient focussed studies which focus on:

  • The collection and utilisation of patient reported outcome data
  • Investigating the quality of life and psychosocial consequences of cancer and treatment on patients and families
  • Developing digital/electronic patient monitoring solutions in routine cancer care
  • Developing quality of life/patient reported outcome measures
  • Working with a consortium of international colleagues we have recently been awarded funding from the Horizon Europe programme. Through the ambitious Mission QOL project, we will lead the development of a toolkit to measure quality of life (QOL) in cancer patients across Europe. This work is co-led by patient researchers and will involve working with multiple different European institutions and with patients across the cancer continuum (from patients on treatment, cancer survivors, palliative care and children and young adults). The work will involve qualitative and quantitative methodology and aims to establish a toolkit to evaluate QOL in cancer patients across Europe.

You will play an integral role in leading the (1) interviews and focus groups with patients; (2) a comparative analysis of systematic reviews, Delphi survey and interviews to develop a draft QOL toolkit; and (3) initial usability testing of the QOL toolkit (including digital implementation). We are looking for an experienced and driven post-doctoral researcher to play a major role in the delivering the day-to-day running of the research under the guidance of Professor Galina Velikova and Dr Alexandra Gilbert.

You will have previous experience in developing questionnaires and health services research. They will also bring expertise in using a range of mixed research methods in the applied health context. The role involves working effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, IT specialists and clinical colleagues both locally in Leeds and nationally and internationally across the wider project consortium.

The role is based with the Patient Centred Outcomes Research (PCOR) team, located in the Bexley Wing at St James's University Hospital campus. A hybrid working model (combining office/clinic and remote working) may be supported where feasible. Some UK and international travel may be required to attend wider research consortium meetings.
