£30942 to £35845 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience.

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join the ‘One Virology' team in the University of Nottingham's School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. The post is funded by a Medical Research Council (MRC) funded Confidence in Concept award. The aim of the funded project is to evaluate the antiviral properties of two novel synthetic analogues of a plant-derived glycolipid that inhibits protein synthesis.

The successful candidate will determine the activity of the compounds against viruses from several different families (including influenza, Zika and SARS- CoV-2) in cell culture assays. They will then contribute to studies of the in vivo efficacy of the lead candidate. They will also contribute to writing research papers and new grants to support further development of the compounds. The study is located at the Sutton Bonington campus of the University of Nottingham.

This role is available on a fixed term basis until 31st December 2021. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 18.12 hours per week).
