Job Summary
Conducts environmental field investigations to determine compliance and updates systems as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources, Engineering, or related field with six months of work experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Solid working knowledge of the principles and methods of field investigation, basic rules of evidence, and Microsoft Word, Excel and TEAMS.
Ability to learn and apply TCEQ and Environmental Protection Agency rules and regulations related to petroleum storage tanks and public water systems,
Skill in conducting inspections of both physical facilities and records; determining proper courses of action; performing basic data entry skills; managing time and assignments to meet deadlines; and operating a motor vehicle in a safe courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws.
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience in natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, environmental law, criminal justice, paralegal activities or related field, and one year experience in data analysis, environmental quality management, public utilities, business administration or a related field.
Working Conditions
Investigators work under a variety of conditions including but not limited to: outdoor activities such as working in and around the vicinity of gasoline dispensing facilities and public water systems; working around electrical hazards; working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme temperatures; standard indoor office conditions including repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Work involves use of manual dexterity; sitting, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, twisting, climbing, squatting, kneeling and crawling; routine travel (i.e. daily) statewide under extreme conditions such as all hours of day/night in high risk/dangerous setting or heavy travel for long distances to conduct investigations, etc. Must have own transportation and steel toe shoes to perform job duties.
