Innovation and Education center, which mission is to accelerate energy
transition through science & technology.
Gathering industrial PV leaders (EDF, TotalEnergies, Air Liquide, Horiba and
Riber) and world-renowned academic research organizations (CNRS, Ecole
Polytechnique), multi-disciplinary and international IPVF teams conduct
research for clean energy technologies. Supported by the French State, IPVF is
labelled Institute for Energy Transition (ITE).

IPVF is looking for a Research Engineer to work on III-V solar cells for high-
efficiency and low-cost photovoltaics. The project will be carried out in
close collaboration with the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies
(C2N-CNRS, SUNLIT team).
Attached to the III-V on Silicon tandem program
(https: // www. ipvf.fr/stephane-collin-introducing-ipvf-programme-3-low-
cos...), the engineer will be in charge of the MBE platform and will also be
involved in the research work of the III-V project.
Our team has recently demonstrated ultrathin (200 nm) GaAs solar cells with
a record efficiency of nearly 20% using efficient light trapping, in
collaboration with Fraunhofer ISE (published in Nature Energy, 2019,
https: // www. nature.com/articles/s41560-019-0434-y). We have also developed
state-of-the-art, wide-bandgap (1.7-1.8eV) solar cells made of AlGaAs for
integration in III-V/Si tandem solar cells
(https: // doi.org/10.1002/pip.3249), and we have recorded important advances
in nanowire-based solar cells (https: // sunlit-team.eu/news/advances-in-
nanowires-for-pv/). These results have opened new opportunities for the
development of low-cost and high-efficiency photovoltaics based on tandem
III-V/Si architectures and advanced concepts (hot-carrier solar cells in
The candidate will benefit from a multidisciplinary environment, IPVF
expertise and have access to IPVF and C2N unique capabilities. He will
directly report to the Programs Deputy Director of IPVF and will integrate a
dynamic and talented team driven by innovation and results.

The Engineer in position will participate in the research work of the program,
he will ensure:
- a support on the different projects using MBE,
- involvement in the III-V planar workpackages,
- involvement in III-V layer transfer tasks,
- training on III-V cell manufacturing processes, when needed,
- optimization of MBE and growth processes,
- fabrication of III-V layers and devices.
She/He will also be in charge of the MBE platform, the tasks will consist of:
- plan, follow and perform the maintenance of the MBE
- set up systematic growth procedures for the different users
- set up a systematic monitoring of the performance of the framework
(through regular measurement of KPIs to be determined with the users)
- maintain a body of documentation (risk analysis, operating instructions)

REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL
Engineering: PhD or equivalent
PhD degree in Material science and/or Electrical Engineering
Solar device physics
Strong cooperation and communication skills
