  • About This Opportunity

    We are seeking a Research Development Officer based within the School of Political Science and International Studies, to support staff and assist with capitalising on opportunities for competitive research grants from diverse, non-traditional funding sources, and with strengthening our research partnerships. This position will be responsible for identifying relevant non- traditional research funding opportunities, supporting the development of long-term strategic research partnerships, developing capacity statements in our areas of strength, working directly with staff to build capacity and knowledge, and assisting the School to develop our outward-facing profile to encourage deeper and more diverse research partnerships. The Research Development Officer must possess excellent relationship building skills, and strong communication and writing skills, coupled with a thorough knowledge of the research funding environment. The position reports to the Head of School.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Source, and provide direct advice and hands on support to researchers in relation to, current and future non-traditional funding opportunities.
  • Source, and provide direct advice and hands on support to researchers in relation to, current and future opportunities for research partnerships across UQ, and with industry, government and NGOs.
  • Assist in the development of capacity statements and other materials to promote the School's profile and strengths.
  • Engage in skills transfer, training, and documentation of existing knowledge to support sustainability for the longer term.
  • Liaise closely with the Faculty Research Partnerships Manager and the Faculty Research Office.
  • This is a part-time (80%), fixed term position for up to 6 months.

    At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $93,254 - $101,680, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $109,107 - $118,966 annually.

    About You

  • A degree with at least 4 years subsequent extensive research development and/or contract management experience, preferably in the tertiary education or research sector; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated skills in research business development.
  • Knowledge of the higher education research funding environment and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated high level relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of assimilating new information rapidly and deploying such knowledge to the benefit of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to successfully engage with industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and proactively liaise across related functional areas of the University.
  • Ability to work effectively independently.
