The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
The Research Compliance Officer provides coordination, support, monitoring and oversight of a range of non-fiscal research compliance functions. Those functions include protections of human subjects; animal care and use; research involving recombinant DNA; and biosafety.
This position provides professional support to compliance boards by preparing agendas, attending meetings to act as an information resource, and maintaining official institutional records. The incumbent monitors developments and changes regarding statutes and rulings, and rules and regulations that impact compliance initiatives and will then assist management and the boards with policy/procedure development/implementation.
The Research Compliance Officer reviews applications for research projects to ensure protocols meet regulatory and ethical standards. This position provides consultation to researchers and board members on legal and procedural compliance. This position also requires the administration and management of the compliance modules within the electronic research administration system (InfoEd) to facilitate the review of research methodologies submitted by Western Carolina University students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
The Research Compliance Officer reports to the Director of Research Compliance and Integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a Master's degree from an accredited institution; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with two (2) years of experience in research or research administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in relevant discipline; Experience in research compliance; Professional experience in an academic research office or division; Demonstrated understanding of applicable federal and state regulations; Knowledge of Responsible Conduct of Research best practices.
