Research Associate in Business Modelling for the Circular Economy of Small Medical Devices

2 years, full time, Expected start date: September/October 2022

Are you an enthusiastic and experienced researcher in simulation modelling? Do you want to join a world class multidisciplinary team with industry partners? Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge to develop simulation models that will evaluate sustainability practices of small medical devices for a Circular Economy?

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Research Associate with expertise in simulation modelling, operational research, or engineering to work on an exciting and timely EPSRC-funded project named The Circular Economy of Small Medical Devices . The project will aim to develop a whole system circular approach to the design, use and end-of-life management of small medical devices (SMD).

This is one of six research associate positions. The postholder will be based at the School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University campus and will lead work on developing simulation modelling tools (discrete-event simulation, system dynamics and/or agent-based) to assess the feasibility and viability of circular product lifecycles for 4 reference SMD products. There is potential to combine these models with health economic evaluations, to be developed in parallel by the health economists involved in this programme of work. Other researchers will investigate design methods, manufacturing methods and end of life recycling and reprocessing.

This appointment will be for 24 months fixed term. You will have a PhD degree or equivalent in operational research, business analytics, management science or any relevant discipline. You will have knowledge of one or more simulation modelling methods (discrete event simulation, system dynamics, agent-based modelling and/or other relevant modelling methods). You will have regular interaction and collaborate closely with the project's team of postdoctoral researchers together with an integrated academic and industrial project team to develop new learning and to disseminate the project findings.
