This is an exciting opportunity for a qualitative or mixed methods researcher to work on an applied health/care services research project in the field of older adult's social care. You will be based in the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU): a multi-disciplinary research centre with an international reputation for generating evidence relevant to policy, service organisation and delivery and practice. Located in the university's Department of Social Policy and Social Work, it is one of the hubs of the National Institute for Health Research's (NIHR) School for Social Care Research (SSCR).
RoleYou will be part of a team exploring the feasibility and acceptability of homecare services routinely collecting the same set of information about the older adults they provide care to; sometimes referred to as a minimum dataset. The study is nested in an existing NIHR multi-institution programme of work (The DACHA study), led by the University of Hertfordshire, which is developing a minimum dataset for care homes. Professor Bryony Beresford (SPRU, University of York) and Professor Barbara Hanratty (Population Health Sciences Institute at Newcastle University) are leading this particular study.
You will play a key role in delivering and managing the day to day working of the study and making a significant contribution to all its elements.
Skills, Experience & Qualification neededYou will be an experienced qualitative or mixed-methods researcher with a first degree in a relevant social science or health/social care subject and a PhD in a relevant social or applied health science, or equivalent post- graduate research experience. You will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, including across disciplines. You will have experience of assuming responsibility for tasks/activities within research projects. You will have successfully published in high quality, peer-reviewed publications and aspire to actively contribute to developing new research ideas and funding bids. You will have excellent communication skills, and experience of using these across the entire research process and with parties and stakeholder groups who may be involved in a study.
Condition of Employment: This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form. Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
This role is available on a full time, fixed term basis for 12 months.
Interview date: To be confirmed
For informal enquiries: please contact Professor Bryony Beresford (bryony.beresford@york.ac.uk).
