Job Description Summary:

The Department of Epidemiology in the Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWU SPH) at George Washington University is conducting several NIH-funded HIV prevention studies. The Department is seeking a full-time Research Associate (RA) to support implementation of these studies. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and delegates, the RA will participate in research activities in the clinic and in a mobile health unit. The primary objective of this position is to support implementation of multi- site protocols. This work will take place out in the field throughout underserved communities in DC and in an office near the Foggy Bottom campus; own transportation to these locations is required.

Special Conditions: This is a field-based study. Employees must be able to work on the mobile unit in the field in urban settings, be flexible from day-to-day, and willing to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment to meet the needs of high-risk participants.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing and conducting recruitment and retention activities
  • Administrative functions in support of research such as conducting data entry, data management, quality assurance and quality improvement, and ethical conduct of study protocols
  • Supporting mobile unit field operations including data collection
  • Supporting field implementation of a community-based study of HIV prevention among people who inject drugs
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, medical staff, peer navigators
  • Assisting the clinician with light duties such as preparing tubes for blood draws, obtaining consent from participants,
  • Overseeing the flow of participants on and around the mobile unit
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates will hold a master's degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

    Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree, preferably in a public health field, as of first day of work (may apply prior to receipt of degree but must have completed all degree requirements as of the first day of work)
  • Previous experience with research and/or multi-site clinical trials
  • Previous experience working with drug using or other highly vulnerable populations
  • Knowledgeable in harm reduction principles
  • Previous experience conducting outreach to vulnerable populations
  • Prior experience with data entry, meticulous research skills required, Medidata Rave or other electronic data capture methods for research
  • Prior professional experience in public health and/or research
  • Interest in working with the population of people who inject drugs and/or opioids
  • Ability to work autonomously when needed but also function well in a team; can work flexible hours
  • Ability to be highly reliable and accountable, maintain confidentiality, and function in a professional environment
  • Excellent oral and written skills and professional demeanor appropriate to clinical environments
  • Ability to complete required ethics training, Good Clinical Practice training, and other certifications as required
  • Typical Hiring Range $49,554.53 - $69,333.11
