The College of Pharmacy is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Pharmaceutical Sciences team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Required Education:

  • Appropriate Bachelor's Degree
  • Required Experience:

  • 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Preferred Education:

  • PhD. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry
  • Preferred Experience:

  • 2 years' experience in multi-step organic synthesis.
  • 2 years' experience in optimization of lead compounds..
  • 2 years lab management experience.
  • 2 years' experience in drug formulation studies.
  • Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to search prior arts using data bases (Scifinder, Reaxys, Pubmed, Sciencedirect etc.).
  • Ability to carry out multi step organic synthesis.
  • Ability to analyze structure activity relationship (SAR).
  • Ability to learn and use computational software MOE (molecular operation environment) and autodock etc.
  • Ability to carry out multi step organic synthesis.

  • Ability to manage a research lab including ordering lab supplies and chemicals, maintaining compound data bases, training student workers.
  • Ability to use NMR, mass spectrometer, and HPLC.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
  • Job Responsibilities
  • Searches prior arts data bases (Scifinder, Reaxys, Pubmed, Sciencedirect etc.) relevant to the assigned project to formulate a plan to support compound synthesis and characterization
  • Executes the plan of synthesis of target molecules and improve the synthesis in a timely manner.
  • Conducts computational work in molecular modeling, drug screening using the approaches identified by the PI
  • Conducts drug formulation studies
  • Writes progress reports and technical documents
  • Participates in general lab organization and maintenance, email,
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records.
  • Assists the PI to manage the lab routine research activities including placing orders, managing data base, training junior lab members to support the lab research activity.
  • Maintains some research instruments
  • Maintains NMR, Mass and HPLC in the core facility as well as other small instruments in the lab.
  • Other duties as assigned
