  • Role Description Department

    The Department of Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to support work on an Innovate UK funded project HiClass within a work package dealing with the use of multicore processors in safety-critical systems and the MOCHA project working on the scheduling of 5G systems. The HiClass project mainly supports industrial companies working in civil avionics. The work requires the researcher to extend a currently operating test rig used to understand and analyse real software executing on multicore processors, and produce results using machine learning and / or statistical techniques that support another experienced researcher working on scheduling of multicore- based systems.

  • To help in developing a technology roadmap for how scheduling and timing analysis will be performed on the next generation of safety-critical systems that use multicore
  • To develop an appropriate testing framework so that there is sufficient confidence in the results obtained
  • To conduct individual and collaborative research projects, duties to include: analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods; writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research
  • Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • First degree in Computer Science (or related subject)
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
  • Competency to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events
  • Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research
