Division of Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences
The Division of Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences in the Department
of Public Health Sciences is seeking an exceptional candidate with experience
in the control of hospital-based infections for a research track associate
The Division of Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences embraces the
traditional role of Epidemiology, the “basic science” of public health, in the
evaluation of the distribution and determinants of health and disease. The
division aims to play major roles in the promotion of health and the
prevention and management of diseases in populations at local, regional,
national, and international levels. The candidate is expected to lead a
program of research in the epidemiology and control of hospital-based
infections, closely interacting with members of the Division of Epidemiology
and Population Health Sciences as well as with infection control staff and
faculty at the Miller School of Medicine and affiliated hospital programs.
Additionally the candidate is expected to develop health system infectious
control training programs targeting domestic and international audiences.
The selected individual will be a faculty member in the Division of
Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences and will be encouraged 1) teach
within the University of Miami's MPH and doctoral graduate programs in public
health and 2) advise and serve as mentor for Master's-level and Doctoral-
level trainees. The faculty member is expected to perform their duties and
responsibilities in a professional and collegial manner.
Candidates should have the ability to:
1. Make scientific breakthroughs, that once translated, will save lives
or improve quality of life.
2. Obtain external funding.
3. Build and develop a fully funded team of high caliber researchers
focusing on research in epidemiology.
4. Represent the Division, Department, and the University at professional
meetings in local communities, nationally, and across the globe.
5. Motivate students in the MPH, MSPH and PhD graduate programs within
the Department with innovative courses created to engage student in
6. Publish seminal research findings in refereed, high impact journals,
book chapters and books.
7. Collaborate with other faculty to obtain research funding.
8. Develop training programs designed to reduce hospital-based infections
9. Assist in the development of strategic partnerships with Departments
at the University, particularly within the Medical School, but also with
Departments, Centers, and Institutes throughout the University.
MD with graduate training in infection control/MPH/or MSPH, MD/PhD or PhD
degree with graduate training in epidemiology, public health or a related
