The Institute of Organic Chemistry invites applications for two positions of Research Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) (m/f/d) in the field of natural product synthesis (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100%) starting as soon as possible. The position is limited to three years.

The Chair of Natural Product Synthesis and Convergent Technologies of Prof. Dr. Heretsch in Hannover is researching radical-polar crossover processes for the efficient semisynthesis of complex triterpenoids within the framework of a recently acquired ERC Consolidator Grant. As an enabling tool, photochemical reactions play an important role. Within the framework of this basic research, we hope to provide answers to the question whether radical- polar crossover processes also play a role in the biosynthesis of triterpenoids.

Responsibilities and duties

We are looking for highly motivated PhD research associates with an interest in performing complex natural product syntheses. Applicants conduct independent research and cooperate with other members of the team.

Employment conditions

A prerequisite for employment is a completed scientific university degree in chemistry or comparable by the date of entry. In addition, we also require:

  • strong research achievements in the field of natural product synthesis, photoredox catalysis, or synthetic organic chemistry in general, demonstrated by publications in renowned journals and/or a relevant Ph.D. degree
  • special motivation and the will to get involved in a complex topic
  • enthusiasm for new topics and critical thinking in synthesis design and new synthesis rationales
  • fluent written and spoken English
  • (ideally) previous experience in topics related to photoredox catalysis and/or organic photochemical reactions
  • What we offer

  • work on an innovative project in natural product synthesis
  • modern equipped laboratories with many exciting projects
  • fun in the lab, flexible working hours
  • open-minded and open-source ideas and a flat hierarchy profile in the working group
  • a broad project with many cooperation opportunities beyond organic chemistry
  • Leibniz University Hannover considers itself a family-friendly university and therefore promotes a balance between work and family responsibilities. Part- time employment can be arranged upon request.
