The Engineering Geology group at the Institute of Applied Geosciences at TU Darmstadt is looking for a

Research Associate/PostDoc (all genders) – Geomechanical Modelling

The employment is limited to three years and can start as soon as possible.

You will work within the framework of the project „Stress prediction – quantification and reduction of uncertainties ofgeomechanical-numerical subsurface models (SQuaRe)", funded by the Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleareSicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV). The project will be carried out in cooperation with partners from RWTH Aachenand Deutschen Geoforschungszentrum (GFZ) Potsdam. Work at TU Darmstadt aims on the quantification of uncertainties insubsurface stresses calculated by geomechanical models resulting from uncertainties in material parameters, boundary andinitial conditons as well as discretization.

Your tasks

  • generation and parametrization of geomechanical-numerical models
  • examination of the impact of model size and discretization on stress prediction
  • analysis of the impact of boundary and initial conditions on geomechanical modelling results
  • quantification of uncertainties in calculated stresses due to variable and uncertain mechanical material parameters
  • determination of sampling strategies for material parameters to reduce uncertainties
  • Your qualification

  • doctorate/PhD in Geology, Geophysics or a related field
  • sound knowledge in structural geology, geomechanics, numerical modelling and statistics
  • very good English language skills and expericence with software for modelling of geological processes
  • social competence, organisational skills, high motivation
  • willingness to work in a committed manner in teaching and university self- administration
  • The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate. Opportunity for further qualification (habilitation) is given.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.

Please send your application with curriculum vitae, copies of degree certificates and a letter of motivation in electronic form(summarised in a single pdf file) to Dipl.-Kffr. Stefanie Kollmann, Sekretariat Ingenieurgeologie ([email protected]).

For further information please contact Prof. Dr. Andreas Henk ([email protected] and Dr. Karsten Reiter([email protected]).
