Computer Science - Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford
‘Digital Security by Design' is a far-reaching paradigm which promises to change how we build networked computer systems. We are looking for two outstanding candidates to fill research roles to explore secure networking in this context.
The InnovateUK-funded project is using the capability-based CHERI/Morello systems architecture, offering memory protection and secure compartmentalisation features to improve the security offered by routers. We want to understand how many vulnerabilities can be eliminated at source, and the practical implications for the project lifecycle. In this, we are linked with the wider Digital Security by Design community, and produce research outputs and materials in support of education in this area.
You should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in computer science. The project will employ post-doctoral researchers to undertake this work, under the supervision of Professor Andrew Martin. The ideal candidates will have some practical experience (ideally, both research and development) in this area and will have a passion for making research contributions in a very practical and applied setting. You will lead on the research aspects of the project, exploring and defining the best way to approach the project goals.
Because the project has a limited time left to run, we are willing to give the post-holders the opportunity to work from home if this is preferable to relocating to Oxford. The post-holder will need to hold or obtain the right to work in the UK and will need to undertake the work in the UK. If suitable candidates apply, we expect to appoint one to a full-time role, and one to a 50% part-time role. Applicants should indicate on their cover letter whether they are interested in both roles or only in FT or PT role.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 20 November 2023. Interviews are expected to be held in late November or early December.
