    CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) was founded upon the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Located on The City College of New York campus in Harlem, the mission of the CSOM is to produce competent, broadly educated, highly skilled medical practitioners who provide quality health services to communities historically underserved by primary care practitioners.

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). The department plays a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the department is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, and oncology.

The Mallikaratchy laboratory is a chemical biology and molecular targeting lab that apply multiple disciplinary approaches inclusive of SELEX technologies,

bioinformatics, molecular and cell biology, molecular design, DNA nanotechnology, organic synthesis, immunology, and preclinical studies in collaboration with

investigators at various institutions to discover novel functional synthetic nucleic acid ligands capable of modulating fundamental interactions pertaining to the

immune system. The current team of highly interdisciplinary researchers consists of biochemists, organic and material chemists, and molecular biologists.

The Mallikaratchy Lab at CSOM is inviting applications for a Research Associate position. The specific focus is to investigate the applicability of aptameric scaffolds in designing synthetic immunological modulators and other cellular modulators. The individual will optimize, establish and optimize immune assays using various

    aptameric scaffolds utilizing aptamers selected against key receptors expressed in human NK-, B-, and T- cells and neuron cells. The successful candidate will design;

synthesize functional aptamer scaffolds. He or she will closely work with immunologists and neurobiologists from collaborating labs.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree.

Preference will be given to those with experience in DNA nanotechnology and/or immunology or neurobiology, and cell biology. Preference will be given to those with

an outstanding publication record in immunology, microbiology, neurobiology, ligand-receptor interactions, or those with established experimental skills in SELEX

and/or handling nucleic acid ligand or monoclonal antibody binding analysis.

Candidates with additional expertise in mammalian or bacterial cell culture, transfection, cloning, and molecular biology (radioactive labeling of nucleic acids,

PCR, and purification of nucleic acids using standard techniques), preparation of nucleic acid libraries for Illumina sequencing, multi-color flow cytometric analysis

and bioinformatic tools aimed at analyzing NGS data or familiarity with computer programming are especially encouraged to apply.

Interested individuals can also prepare for his/her independent career development by writing collaborative grant proposals with the PI.
