Cardiovascular Physiology at theInstitute of Physiology and Pathophysiology
with the opportunity to obtain a state doctorate (Habilitation).
The position is initially limited to 2 years, with a possible extension of
up to 5 years. The maximum term limit according to WissZeitVG applies.
The Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology is part of the Medical
Faculty of Heidelberg University. Scientists of the Institute participate in
various national and international collaborative research projects and teach
the subject of physiology to about 450 students of medicine and dentistry
annually. Research focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of the
cardiovascular and the nervous system.
Tasks an Prerequisites
The successful applicant, who will directly join the team headed by the
director of the department, Prof. Markus Hecker, should have a strong interest
in remodeling processes in the cardiovascular system, especially of the heart,
and should be familiar with a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art methods in
animal experimentation, microscopy, protein biochemistry, cell and molecular
It is expected that, following a one semester training period, he/she will

dentistry) with a teaching load of 4 hours per week per semester, covering
the entire spectrum of the field, as well as supervise and instruct medical

collaborations with researchers of the Institute and the scientific community
of Heidelberg as well as with those from national and international research
Initially the personal research project will be integrated in the research
activities of the head of the department (role of mechanosensitive signal
transduction pathways in cardiovascular diseases). In view of a possible
state doctorate in physiology the establishment and execution of an individual
research concept linked to the area of research of the department and the
solicitation of external research funding will be supported.
Prerequisite for a successful application is a qualified scientific or medical
doctorate and some previous scientific activity (postdoc), ideally with a
