The School of Management seeks to recruit a Research Associate in operational research and warehouse logistics to work on an exciting research project creating impact. The project aims to develop models and solution approaches for dynamic order picking and inventory optimisation in dark stores and urban micro fulfilment centres. You will work as part of a research team to:

  • conduct research towards project objectives and towards developing necessary solutions, most likely using mathematical modelling and optimisation,
  • measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the developed solutions with data from a real logistics environment,
  • extend resulting software prototypes into applications or methods to be used within actual operations,
  • disseminate project findings locally, nationally, and internationally with oral presentation, formal reporting, and peer-review publication
  • work together with the project's industrial collaborators in developing, testing, and evaluating proposed solutions.
  • You will have strong analytical skills (such as mathematical modelling, optimisation, heuristics) and good knowledge of operations, logistics and warehouse management. Eagerness to work on real-life problems utilising empirical data from business operations is key for this role. This is a 12-month fixed term post with an expected start date on/around February 1, 2022.

This role is funded by an Innovate UK Smart Grant project in collaboration our industrial partner, Logidot. Logidot is an industrial Internet of Things company founded in 2017 and born out of a research programme, to develop a system for high performance real-time location tracking of mobile assets in industrial warehouses. Logidot is the manufacturer of award winning industrial real-time location system (RTLS) and services to help warehouse and factory operators track, analyse and optimise the efficiency and safety of operations.

If successful, you will join a vibrant team of academics and researchers in the Centre for Smart Warehousing and Logistics Systems and the Information, Decisions & Operations division.

You are encouraged to make informal enquiries regarding the post to Dr Vaggelis Giannikas (eg615@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Melih Celik (mc2498@bath.ac.uk), however, please submit your application via the University website
