Background and Context

This job opening is for a postdoctoral Data Scientist to work in an applied AI context with academics from the University of Hull and two commercial partners towards an adaptable AI-based information extraction system. The aim of this project is to develop a text analysis system that can efficiently extract key information from large unstructured text collections to increase the value of stored data.

We specifically target a multi-domain setting that leverages novel machine learning methods and linguistic prior knowledge to overcome issues in data sparsity and bias. This will be achieved through a “human in the loop” learning scenario that adapts pre-trained models to new commercial domains in an efficient domain transfer approach that makes use of interactive feedback from end users.

The successful applicant is expected to lead on the research aspect of this project and will work in collaboration with software developers at the commercial partners and Research Assistants at the university to embed the applied solution into a commercial context.

Competencies Required

This project requires excellent programming skills and demonstrated experience in successfully designing, developing and maintaining larger software projects. Time management and self-guided learning are essential. Good theoretical and applied knowledge of data analytics, AI and machine learning are essential, experience in natural language processing is a plus.
