Salary: UH5 £27,181pa pro rata with potential to progress to £30,487pa pro rata by annual increments
Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane, Hatfield
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a nationally-funded project developed collaboratively by young people, a community organisation, academics and an NHS organisation. Using a ‘community of practice' approach the project will explore how under-served and marginalised young people can best participate in an Integrated Care System (ICS) in and around a borough of north-east London. Working closely with our voluntary sector and NHS partners, the Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting young people who live in the area, and adults who work with them, to learn and work together to explore how participation can best improve the health and wellbeing of under- served young people.
The Research Assistant will work within the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC), part of the University of Hertfordshire's School of Health and Social Work. CRIPACC is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary research centre which provides an ideal opportunity for career progression within a collaborative academic research environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will provide research support to the project outlined above. Supporting the project lead, working proactively to ensure that study milestones and deliverables are achieved according to agreed quality standards and timelines. You will be involved in all aspects of the research project from set up to delivery including contributing to project organisation, documentation, meetings, data collection, reporting and dissemination. You will also play a key role in stakeholder mapping, planning and co-facilitating meetings and workshops with young people and adult stakeholders and supporting young people's involvement in the project and associated evaluation.
Skills and experience required
You must have demonstrable research experience at undergraduate level and experience of participation, youth work and/or public involvement with young people. Experience of working as part of a research team in a Higher Education Institution or a local authority, NHS or a voluntary or community sector organisation is desirable, as is experience of research with young people and an understanding of the impact of health inequalities on young people.
As well as good written and oral communication skills, this post will require the ability to communicate with different individuals and audiences, including young people. The focus of the post is on working collaboratively with project partners and stakeholders in a real-world setting, and further development of experience and skills will be encouraged and supported by the project team and principal investigator. You are expected to be well organised, responsible, capable of using your own initiative and able to work to tight deadlines with accuracy whilst dealing with conflicting priorities. You may be required to deal with sensitive material and must be able to do so with strict confidentiality.
You must be prepared to travel regularly to the University and north-east London and to travel elsewhere as necessary to undertake your responsibilities.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of a degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) or proven relevant experience.
