Job Description Summary:
Founded in 1824, the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is the 11th oldest medical school in the country and the first in the nation's capital. The group's main interests are advancing our understanding of the molecular and cellular pathological mechanisms of myasthenia gravis using innovative rodent models and cutting-edge technologies, and developing antigen-specific immunosuppressive therapies for the disease. The research is highly interdisciplinary, relying on tools from molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, AI-based structure prediction, transgenic models, immunology, and neuroscience, but also including industrial collaboration. The laboratory of Dr. Jie Luo is seeking a motivated candidate at the rank of Research Assistant.
This research support position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures, and assisting with administrative aspects of preparing manuscripts for publication. This position may perform some lab maintenance duties as a secondary function. This role typically works under immediate supervision, and the primary job functions do not require exercising independent judgment.
Duties Include: • Assists in the injection, tissue collection, clinical evaluation, recording and analyzing of results in animal experiments • Assists in performing immunoassays, flow cytometry analysis, mammalian and bacterial cell cultures, DNA preparation, and protein purification. • Provides general technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively. • Works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams. • Assists in compiling results and preparing technical reports and documentation of outcomes. • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to prioritize multiple tasks and demands. • Strong communication and excellent organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential. • Ability to learn actively, and function at a fast pace is a key to success in this position. • Prior experience in molecular biological techniques, cell culture, or animal models is desired.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
