Since it was established in 2000, the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies has been a signature component of Rutgers University Newark's commitment to be an anchor institution for the metropolitan area. Cornwall's specific role is bringing the campus's intellectual talent and other resources to bear on the challenges of revitalizing Newark and similar communities in the region and state.
Additionally, the Newark City of Learning Collaborative (NCLC) was launched in January 2015 to ensure that all Newark residents have the opportunity, information, and access to go to college, afford college, complete college, and ultimately obtain good jobs. The Collaborative has a goal of increasing the proportion of Newark residents with a degree or credential beyond high school to 25% by the year 2025 and ultimately sustaining Newark's college going culture well beyond 2025.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Research Assistant (Temporary) for the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies which will report to the Sr. Program Manager. The Research Assistant (Temporary) will support the Center's research projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented, responsive critical thinker with experience conducting research in and studying the social sciences (for example, sociology, social or cultural psychology, social work, economics, education studies, political science, or an interdisciplinary field).

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
•Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. •Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses Preferred Qualifications
• Previous research assistant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience • Experience conducting qualitative research including conducting interviews, coding, and/or document review • Experience analyzing quantitative data and developing charts, graphs, and other visualizations • Both the capacity and willingness to learn new software, work routines, and research methods • Ability to work independently and accurately without direct supervision • Strong writing and editing skills • Responsiveness; unless previous arrangements have been made, the RA should be willing to respond to emails within 24 hours
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Master's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience • Strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative research methods and measurements • Experience using data analysis software, such as R, SPSS, Stata, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, MAXQDA, NVivo, etc. • Experience using graphic design software to prepare marketing materials • Experience writing for a variety of audiences • Familiarity with IRB and human subjects procedures

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same.
