Research Assistant

Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford OX3 7FY

We are looking for a talented, dynamic and academically driven Research Assistant to join our Arthritis Therapy Acceleration Programme (A-TAP), led by Prof Christopher Buckley from the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, and work within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to explore the possibility of developing an academic career path and who are interested in learning and refining their skills towards this goal.

You will report to Professor Mark Coles (Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology) and work with Associate Professor James Fullerton, (Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences).

You will support the research team in the creation of valid human experimental paradigms through which to rapidly evaluate the potential and pharmacology of immunomodulatory investigational medicinal products. Specifically, you will be responsible for the processing and analysis of biological samples arising from on-going human immune challenge studies undertaken at the NIHR Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility.

You must hold (or be near to completing) a MSc degree, or equivalent qualification, in Immunology, and be working toward applying for a doctorate in a specialist discipline. You must have experience of, and proven research skills in, human cellular and molecular immunology, including flow cytometry. Sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes is essential, jointly with ability to manage own research and administrative activities.

Experience of working in a research team and contributing to articles for publication and experience working with cell culture and ex vivo functional assessment of cellular function is desirable.

This is a fixed-term, full time position until 30/04/2024.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

• A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check

The closing date for this position is 12 noon on Wednesday 30 November 2022. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
