Research Assistant

Department of Paediatrics, Wood Research Group, IDRM, Old Road Campus, Oxford

Applications are invited for an experienced and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join Professor Matthew Wood's laboratory and undertake a preclinical project utilizing oligonucleotides and small molecules for the therapeutic treatment of neuromuscular diseases such as Spinal Muscular Dystrophy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day execution of the project, in particular animal experiments, optimising new experimental protocols and analysing results. You will be familiar with standard molecular biology techniques mostly involving processing and analyzing animal tissue. You will also collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of papers.

You must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant area of research. You will need to demonstrate having experience in animal handling and colony management, with expertise in drug administration and assessment of motor phenotype testing desirable. The applicant must have previous experience in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques, including, but not limited to, RNA and protein expression analysis. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.

You will be based in the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), Department of Paediatrics, at the University of Oxford.

The position is full-time and fixed term until 21 August 2023.
