Research assistant with possibility for PhD – Build-up of a simulationsoftware for abrasive processes
100%, Zurich, fixed-termprint Drucken
The Institute of Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) at ETH Zurich performs internationally leading research on machine tools and in the field of production engineering. We are looking for an intern with informatics background for support on a new research project with close industrial contact.
Project backgroundThe IWF process research group is aiming to develop a modular software tool for abrasives processes in general, called iBRUS. For two decades IWF carries out research on abrasive processes like grinding, lapping, wire sawing, and hard broaching. For consolidating the piled-up knowledge of several research projects a simulation framework with a modular structure is intended and the results attained so far shall be ported into this framework. This framework shall be used as a basis for further research in the field and shall allow us to easily integrate new kinematics, concepts and meta-models. user interfaces shall be designed also and leave sufficient flexibility for future research.
Job descriptionYour task is to further develop codes already written in Python in collaboration with colleagues knowledgeable in abrasive processes. Additionally, the Python code should be developed modularly, allowing easy integration of new processes, kinematics, functions, equations, etc. A user interface development is also required.
Your profileWe offer an inspiring, supportive and team-based industry and research environment that helps you to create your own research and expertise profile. Our team shares a common mission to make a measurable impact in both research and research transfer. The team has an excellent international and national network with research institutions and industrial partners. In the field of design and industrialization of additive manufacturing, we are one of the leading groups with a strong reputation.
