Description

Research Assistant - Vision Group

John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU

The Vision Group, part of the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, seeks a Research Assistant to support an exciting new neuroimaging study of children with amblyopia. Also known as ‘lazy eye', this is a common childhood vision disorder that can cause permanent impairments in vision.

You will work closely with the other members of the research team on all aspects of this study and will be responsible for recruiting children with binocular vision abnormalities, and control children who have normal sight. You will additionally help to write and administer all ethical approvals for the study, and will be actively involved in all aspects of data collection, including scheduling and running MRI scan sessions and behavioural testing sessions. Since the project involves children, the scan sessions will need to be outside of the school day and therefore you will need to have a flexible work schedule. More generally, you will be expected to participate in lab weekly lab meetings and other activities with the Vision Research Group. The position is an excellent opportunity for a candidate interested in gaining research experience in a neuroimaging environment with a clinical focus.

Extensive training courses will be available.

The successful candidate will have a first-class or high 2.1 degree in relevant subject (e.g. Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Science) and strong recent academic references. They will also have good communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organization skills and be able to show initiative. Good technical and computer skills will also be beneficial to support data collection. Experience in recruiting participants for studies, working in a neuroimaging environment and writing ethical permissions for human studies is desirable as well as involvement in public engagement.

The post is available until 31st October 2024.

Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 3rd October 2022 will be considered.

Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
