About the College/Unit/Department
In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with
various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated
research to the community. Research is done on a wide range of commodities,
including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make
agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia. In 2004, a teaching program was
initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on
campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship,
a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human
Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the
required minimum qualifications.
Prefer a Bachelor's in Biology or related field
The incumbent will assist researchers and technicians with research on
genetics and genomics in peanuts. Specific responsibilities will include
crossing and reproductive analysis of multiple genotypes, developmental
stages, and disease states. Observational and computer skills are essential.
This position is grant-funded for 2 years. While the continuation of funding
and employment is anticipated, it is not guaranteed.

- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions in a lab,
greenhouse, or field environment.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time while conducting repetitive tasks
outdoors, in the greenhouse, or in the lab

Planting and harvest – Primarily consists of manual planting of small plots
for replicated tests in the field. Seeds may be germinated in the greenhouse
for transplanting to the field

Data collection – will consist of molecular assays in the laboratory (DNA
extraction and PCR); measurement of plant characteristics in greenhouse and
field – morphological, reproductive, disease responses

Crossing – male and female plants grown in a greenhouse. Females are
emasculated in the late afternoon and pollinated in the early morning (this
requires patience and conscientiousness to ensure all anthers are removed
without damaging flower and that pollen is transferred to stigmas –
