FLSA Non-Exempt Job Family FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This person will conduct experiments, summarize, and report data for an independent project or assist ongoing projects led by other members on the team. Knowledge and experiences in molecular genetics, plant science, cell biology and microbiology is preferred. Responsibilities of the position also include maintaining lab safety regulations, laboratory instruments, and inventory, assisting with the purchase of lab supplies, and ensuring overall organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

have knowledge of lab techniques and protocols as they pertain to this type of research. Familiarity with sterile technique and basic equipment in a plant pathology lab, and some knowledge of molecular techniques for pathogen identification (DNA extraction, PCR, etc.). Computer literacy with knowledge of common software packages. Excellent oral and written communication skills

Minimal lifting/bending in the normal operations of a typical office/lab environment. Driving.

Duties/Responsibilities

Conduct research in the lab and support to include but not limited to the collection and recording of data and assist with developing reports. Work with others in a collaborative research environment.

Percentage of time 60 Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with lab maintenance: safety regulations, laboratory instruments and inventory, the purchase of lab supplies, and ensuring overall organization (e.g., wash glassware, prepare basic solutions, and media, take away the trash, etc.).

Supervision of student worker, undergraduate students that assist with research.
