Job Description:

The research assistant will participate in design and execution of research lab projects. Conducts experimental tests and procedures and processes and analyzes data. This role reviews and revises existing research methodologies and may develop new methodologies.

Education and Experience :

A successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of undergraduate, work completed and must have previous research experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Following overall research objectives, independently designs, plans, conducts and troubleshoots experiments.
  • Evaluates protocols and data obtained from groups of experiments and recommends changes to processes, procedures and techniques to improve quality and validity of results based upon overall project objectives.
  • Basic Molecular Biology: DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression, Western blotting, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA
  • Basic Cellular Biology: Cell culture, cell isolation
  • Participate in design, fabrication and validating biosensors.
  • Assist P.I. and other research team members in developing the research design, including protocols.
  • Collect and analyze data, including experimental data, periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.

  • Research methods, testing and data collection, analysis, evaluation, report writing, independent discretion and judgment.
  • Wet lab abilities
  • Basic knowledge in molecular biology and cell biology
  • Excellent analytical, writing skills required.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Computer modeling and code experience (Solid works, ProE, Matlab, Python, Labview)
  • Previous experience in molecular biology and cell biology research
  • Physical and Mental Requirements:

    Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.

    Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus. Ability to drive locally.
