Research Assistant/Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in innate immunity to start in September 2024.

The successful candidate will join the laboratories of Dr Brian Ferguson (https: // www. and Professor Clare Bryant in a BBSRC-funded project to investigate the innate immune responses in livestock animals affected by the zoonotic disease, Q fever.

The post will held within the Departments of Pathology and Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge and can involve travel to collaborative laboratories in India.

The candidate should have completed a PhD level degree in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry or a closely related field and have a proven track record of success in biomedical research. In addition, it would be advantageous if the candidate had demonstrable wet-lab research experience and a particular interest in innate immunity. Experience in the following is desirable but non-essential: cell culture, CRISPR editing, western blot, RNA- seq, proteomics, infection biology.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Successful applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to supervise students. They will be expected to design and carry out research both independently and as part of a team. The successful applicants will become an integral and valued member of a multi- disciplinary, dynamic and sociable research group.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 16th June 2027 subject to a satisfactory 6-month probation period.

The closing date for all applications is 30th July and interviews will be held shortly thereafter.
