Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in
Achieving Low-Carbon Low-Cost Products for Sustainable Modular Integrated
Construction (MiC) in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.:
516114), to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis for
up to three years in total, or on a three-year fixed-term basis.
We are seeking a highly-motivated individual who is passionate to develop low-
carbon and low-cost construction products for achieving sustainable MiC
project delivery. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in
life cycle carbon assessment, low-carbon building design and materials, low-
cost low-carbon solutions, and/or modular construction. Applicants with a
strong interest in this area who possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in
construction engineering and management, and civil and structural engineering
are also welcome.
The appointee should have an inquisitive mind, risk-taking attitude,
willingness to learn new skills and the ability to creatively tackle complex
problems. Proficiency in carbon emission estimation is preferred. Basic
knowledge in carbon assessment, off-site and modular construction, and
construction economics analysis would be an advantage.
The appointee will be part of the research team led by Professor Wei Pan,
Associate Vice-President (Research and GBA) of The University of Hong Kong
and Executive Director of the Centre for Innovation in Construction and
Infrastructure Development. The appointee will be working within an
international and interdisciplinary group to develop low-carbon and low-cost
MiC systems to tackle grand challenges in construction sustainability. Areas
that the appointee might be required to undertake include but are not limited
to assessment of embodied carbon emissions, development of sustainable MiC
products, low-carbon analysis, and cost variance and sensitivity analysis. The
appointee will also assist in grant applications, conduct presentations,
prepare reports for funded projects, and perform other ad-hoc duties.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current
rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment on
fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution
to a retirement benefits scheme totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
