Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, is looking for a candidate for
the position of postdoc in the project joint project with prof. Frank Cichos
from Leipzig University: Anti-Stokes Cooling for Fluidics. The successful
candidate will conduct optical measurements of laser induced cooling of
nanocrystals in optical microscope setup. The candidate will participate in
two major research tasks of the project:
Optical nanothermometry technique, which can be used during laser cooling, his may include developing and testing of techniques based on luminescence and Raman scattering, and comparing them with other techniques e.g. phase transition of liquid crystals, or Brownian motion analysis of floating or optically trapped nanoparticles. The candidate will investigate if optical nanotermomenry techniques are affected by laser cooling, which is rapid non-equilibrium process. And vice versa, is laser cooling affected by the nanothermometry technique, due to heating or some other non-thermal process.
2. Development of rare-earth nanoparticles, which can be laser cooled in water (H2O). Until now, all studies show that efficient cooling is possible in have water (D2O), but there are no studies of cooling in normal water. The candidate will conduct optical measurements in microscopy setup of nanocrystals with different size, ions concertation, and protective shells in both D2O and H2O environments. The candidate should give scientific feedback and participate in designing and improve laser cooling of nanocrystals.
The candidate will not be requested to synthesize the nanocrystals, but if
he/she is willing to participate in synthesis part of the project it will be
possible in cooperation with prof. Dominika Wawrzyńczyk. Description of the
project can be found on the webpage:
