Research Assistant Position in Cardiac Stem Cell Physiology

The research group of PD Dr. Nina Ullrich at the Institute of Physiology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern, Department of Cardiac Physiology, is offering a full-time position for a postdoctoral research assistant in the field of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes for myocardial regeneration.

The research group of PD Dr. Nina Ullrich at the Institute of Physiology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern, Department of Cardiac Physiology, is offering a full-time position for a postdoctoral research assistant in the field of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes for myocardial regeneration.

You will join a young and dynamic team in a fully established lab with state- of-the-art equipment, supportive working atmosphere and an inspiring scientific community. The position is initially available for the period of 3 years with the option of prolongation.

Job description

  • Establishment of novel 2D and 3D cultures with different biomechanical properties (special cell culture techniques for hiPSC-cardiomyocytes and material science)
  • Modulation of cell-environment interactions and analysis of mechanosensitive signaling pathways (molecular biology, pharmacology, live-imaging, immunocytochemistry)
  • Investigation of intercellular communication with focus on electrical coupling and mechanical activity in multicellular preparations (live-cell imaging, electrophysiology)
  • Qualification profile

  • PhD in biology, biophysics or related life science discipline
  • Proficiency in human stem cell biology, electrophysiology and live imaging
  • Strong background in data analysis and basic programming skills
  • Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
  • Highly self-motivated, team-minded and enthusiastic for interdisciplinary research
