Research Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)

The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI), University of Cambridge, is seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to research, publishing and outreach on the ethics and governance of AI and other emerging technologies. This is a fixed-term post for which funding is available for 12 months in the first instance.

CFI is a highly interdisciplinary research centre addressing the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence (AI), in both the short and long term. CFI is based at the University of Cambridge, with partners in Imperial College London, and UC Berkeley, and close links with industry and policymakers. More information is available at: https: // www.

The Research Assistant will support CFI's Academic Director, Dr Stephen Cave, with a range of tasks related to research project development, research process, publication and dissemination. This could include literature reviews; proofreading; identifying potential partners; assisting with the drafting of reports, material for webpages or social media posts; and aspects of project and academic event management. One important strand will be assisting with a new book series for Cambridge University Press, Elements in AI Ethics and Society, which Dr Cave is editing with Dr Kerry McInerney.

Applicants should have, or be studying for, a postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to the ethics and governance of AI and/or other technologies (including philosophy, political science, science and technology studies, media studies, sociology, or related fields). All applicants should be able to demonstrate strong motivation in line with the goals of CFI, as well as capacity to work independently and in collaboration with others. Some relevant experience, such as in proofreading, publishing, project management or relevant research methods, is desirable.
