Research Assistant – Non-Communicable Diseases

Jenner Institute, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7FZ

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant – Non-Communicable Disease Group to join the Jenner Institute at the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will be responsible for managing your own research and administrative activities with support from senior colleagues. You will develop protocols and perform a range of experimental techniques, such as characterising molecular interactions (e.g., ELISA, Bio-Layer Interferometry, SPR), biophysical analyses (native and conventional MS, EM, Dynamic Light Scattering, fluorimetry), microbial and mammalian cell culture, protein expression and chromatography purification. You will also be gathering, analysing, and presenting scientific data from a variety of sources, including reviewing of the literature and data generated in house and from consortium. You will perform research work to a high standard, produce and maintain clear experimental plans, laboratory records, and reports.

It is essential that you are educated to a first degree in a relevant biological subject, or a related discipline, together with some practical laboratory experience working with biological materials. You will have good interpersonal skills, and organisational skills, along with good documentation and computer skills (Excel and Word). You will be able to interpret scientific data, and have a keen attention to detail and be able to conduct experiments to a consistently high standard.
