Research Assistant in T cell Immuno-Oncology

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the research team headed by Associate Professor Geraldine Gillespie, and Emeritus Professor Andrew McMichael in the Oxford Centre for Immuno- Oncology, Nuffield Department of Medicine. The team has developed novel ways of exploring the how T cells specific for the non-polymorphic HLA-E molecule, bound to peptides, can be used to attack cancer cells.

You will be responsible for contributing to basic research aiming to inform the design future therapies that focus on cancer peptides bound to HLA-E. Following initial training, you will be expected to plan and independently carry out experimental work (managing work to meet deadlines as needed). This job involves in analysing, displaying (in the form of graphs etc) and interpreting data (with reference to controls etc), and presenting results to/discuss them with other team members/the group head. You will also be expected to present data in regular laboratory group meetings, and where appropriate, other internal meetings and on conference calls with collaborators, as required.

It is essential that hold a first BSc level degree in a relevant biomedical science area. Having a good knowledge of immunology including an overview of the immune system; cell types and cell-cell interaction and the nature of antigen processing for T cells, T cell receptor recognition and the functions of the MHC, is essential. You will have an expertise with, or at minimum a good understanding of, basic molecular biology, proteomic and cellular immunological techniques including flow cytometry.
